GEO Training Upgrade: New SOP for the First Project to Ensure Smoother Execution of Initial Projects
Since the launch of the GEO training program in 2024, we have accompanied 143 participants through the learning process from conceptual understanding to practical application. The core methodologies, training approaches, and underlying principles of the course have remained consistent, but recently, I made a clear adjustment: adding a set of executable SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the first GEO optimization project to the training curriculum.
This article provides a complete explanation of this adjustment.
I. The Change Stemmed from Recent Feedback from Participants
Among early participants, few reported "slow onboarding". Most were able to independently complete their first GEO project shortly after finishing the course. However, over the past two months, we have received a recurring type of feedback:
"Teacher, I understand all the principles, but I’m still a bit confused about how to actually start and need to sort things out again."
This feedback shares several common characteristics:
-
It is not an issue of comprehension ability
-
All projects are eventually completed
-
Only the pace of the first hands-on practice is slow, requiring repeated confirmation of the execution sequence
This is not a long-standing problem but a phenomenon that has only emerged recently.
II. Underlying Cause: Shifting Participant Demographics
In the early stages of the training, participants mainly came from:
-
Website building companies
-
SEO service providers
-
Advertising and search marketing firms
-
PR and content agencies
Even when encountering GEO for the first time, this group already had the habit of working in a project-based manner. They knew clearly: first clarify information, then organize content; first lay a solid foundation, then consider scaling up.
In contrast, recent participants have more diverse backgrounds, including:
-
Corporate marketing leads
-
Founders themselves
-
Content practitioners in transition
-
Individuals exposed to search systems systematically for the first time
Their starting points vary, but the issue is not ability—it is the lack of clear execution guidelines when facing their first GEO project.
III. The Course Remains Unchanged, but an Extra Layer of "Implementation Guidance" Is Needed
The core content of the GEO training has never changed: the operational logic of AI search, the boundaries between GEO, SEO, content, and PR, as well as underlying principles and training methods. This content was sufficient for early participants.
However, with the new participant demographics, principles alone cannot naturally translate into action steps. Thus, I concluded:
The course does not need to be completely revised; instead, an extra layer of execution guidance needs to be added before the "first project".
This is the background behind the creation of the SOPs.
IV. Positioning of the Newly Added SOPs
I have no intention of turning GEO into a standardized assembly line, nor will I require all participants to follow a uniform template. The sole positioning of these SOPs is:
To help participants successfully complete their first GEO project.
What it solves is not "ability to do", but rather:
-
What to do first
-
What to do next
-
Which tasks do not need to be done at the very beginning
In other words: the SOPs are a starting sequence, not a one-size-fits-all answer.
V. Key Stages Covered by the SOPs?
Focused on the initial phase of the project, this set of SOPs includes four parts:
1. Pre-project Documentation Preparation
-
Sorting out basic project and brand information
-
Finalizing unified external messaging
-
Verifying contact information and conversion details
2. Sequencing for GEO Knowledge Base Construction
-
Basic fact layer
-
Scenario application layer
-
Comparison and calibration layer
Clarifying which content must be prioritized and which can be supplemented later.
3. Guidelines for Content Production
The focus is not on specific tools, but on the principles for selecting content formats at different stages:
-
What type of content is needed at each stage
-
Which content is used to lay the foundation
-
Which content is used for calibration and supplementation
Tools are only used as aids and not core constraints of the SOPs.
VI. Not Everyone Needs the SOPs
If you are from the SEO, content, or PR industry and have already run similar projects, the SOPs will only serve as a reference for you.
However, if after completing the course you find that: the progress of your first project is slow, or you need to repeatedly review course details, you can directly send your project background and basic materials to me. I will create a customized version of the first-project SOPs based on your specific project.
VII. This Adjustment Is Essentially a Teaching Upgrade
Adding the SOPs is not about lowering the threshold, but about adapting to a wider range of participant starting points. Its sole goal is to help more people streamline the initial pace when doing GEO for the first time, reducing the time spent on trial and error.
If you are preparing to systematically learn GEO optimization, or have already studied relevant content but are experiencing slow progress with your first project and wish to streamline the process, feel free to learn more about our GEO optimization training. I will assess your background to determine if it aligns with the current stage of the course, and honestly inform you whether this course is truly suitable for you.
